"I wish I would have started sooner"
Today I want to address what I've heard a few clients say over this past month. I take their personal stories and experience to heart, and I share these sentiments with you, because I feel they are alive and well in all of us, just express themselves differently and at different times because of different circumstances.
Two clients mentioned how strongly they wish they had found/began with a personal coach sooner. I celebrate this moment because for both of them, their progress has been notable, and their prevention has been outstanding. Last month I wrote to you about the "Slippery Slope of Aging," and both of these clients feel as if they have halted or drastically slowed their pace on that slope. They feel a sense of being present in this time and space, capable of living their lives to the fullest, and accomplishing their "joy activities" one day at a time. For one client this means the ability to attend the sporting events of their grandchildren each weekend, as well as participate in their own recreational sports. For the other client, this means that they can power-wash their daughters patio on one weekend, and help move their elderly friends mother pack and move the next. (If you're reading this, please know that I am so proud of you!)
There are of course a number of reasons why we should opt out instead of opting in. Often our opting out is a positive response to our doctors orders as we are in need of recovery, recuperation and rest. Other times we've been going hard, and things like overtraining or "over-living" are a real issue for us. We literally need a break. But life is a continuous journey of getting on and off the train of fitness. I've never met a person who had gotten off that train and had not wished to get back on. I've never met a person who was not striving to better themselves and how they feel.
I've spoken to this point before, but I'm going to reiterate it here. Why are we comfortable with hiring out jobs to specialists for things around our home or our car, but we resist the urge to hire a person that can literally help us help ourselves? I go to a financial advisor for my financial health, I see an insurance agent for my insurance needs, and I even hire a pest control worker when I've got pests. I take my car to the mechanic when the dash light is on, and have the air vent replaced after wild fires.
What kind of trust could you place outside of yourself in a coach that allowed you to learn and to grow and progress, but all also receive guidance and connection? What would it mean to you to not ever utter the words "I wish I would have started sooner?"
